Frequently Asked Questions

Boy taking online chinese class

Why is it important for my child to learn Chinese?

The world is getting smaller and people who speak different languages interact daily. Throughout the world, children routinely learn multiple languages. In China, for instance, all children learn English. In Europe it is not uncommon for children to learn several languages, such as English, French and Spanish. The earlier children are taught a new language, the easier it will be for them to learn and understand it. In addition to developing lifelong communication skills, children benefit from learning multiple languages, including improved overall academic performance and superior problem-solving skills. Long term, learning a second or even a third language provides children with a competitive advantage in the workforce, especially as international business continues to expand. It is also important to emphasize that as college entrance becomes more and more competitive, students of foreign languages score statistically higher on standardized tests conducted in English. The College Entrance Examination Board reported that students who averaged 4 or more years of foreign language study scored higher on the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) than those who had studied 4 or more years in any other subject area. Most importantly, studies have proven that children who learn a second language are more creative and better at solving complex problems.

Is online learning right for my child?

Little Linguists Academy's primary focus is to give parents an opportunity to give their children the gift of language. At Little Linguists Academy, we understand that parents have difficult decisions to make regarding extracurricular activities for their children. Knowing that parents have limited time and/or money for extra activities, we have developed an exciting and affordable online learning methodology for children to learn language from the comfort of their home.
Online learning (also know as e-learning) is becoming more and more popular. Universities throughout the world are now offering e-learning as an option for their students. However, until now, e-learning has not yet been utilized in a way that can benefit children. For children to be able to benefit from e-learning, the e-learning environment must be fun and interactive. Little Linguists Academy's methodology combines the convenience of e-learning with customized learning tools (songs, games, arts & crafts, toys, etc.) delivered monthly to your home. This package of tools, The Language Box, is utilized in each class so that the live teacher can interact with your children.

How much does an online class cost?

The cost to enroll your child in one of our online Chinese language classes is $90.00 per month. For this fee, each student will: 1) receive the Language Box (interactive games, arts & crafts and other items), delivered monthly to your home; and 2) students may attend one live online class per week. In addition, because all classes are recorded, enrolled students may view the current week's class or any past class an unlimited number of times. Will my child pay attention to an online class?

Little Linguists Academy has developed a unique online teaching methodology that is designed to capture the attention and imagination of every child. Through a combination of songs, games and live interaction, children enjoy our classes and benefit greatly from the experience. We also recommend that parents take part in our classes with their children so that they too can learn and interact in a new language with their children. It is important to note that all of our classes are recorded. Therefore, if your child does become distracted in the middle of a class, he or she can view the remainder of the class at any time. Click here for more information about Recorded Classes.

Why won't my child tell me what he/she is learning?

Don't be surprised if your child won't immediately show off his or her new language skills. Like most new activities, children need to gain confidence and that may take some time. Don't be discouraged. Your child will surprise you with new words and songs when they feel comfortable doing so. One way to encourage your child is to sit with them during classes, use the items from the Language Box and always be sure to praise your child for their hard work and knowledge.

How many classes per week?

Classes occur one time per week. When you enroll, you will be given a list of available classes in which to enroll your child. The class you select will start each week at the designated time.

What if we miss a class?

All of our classes are recorded. Therefore, if your child misses a class or becomes distracted in the middle of a class, he or she can view the remainder of the class at any time. Click here for more information about Recorded Classes.
